KWAKWAKAW'WAKL
The Kwakwaka’wakaw also known as the Kwakkewlths by Indian Affairs or as the Kwakiutl by anthropologists have a current population of about 5500 who live in British Columbia on northern Vancouver Island and the adjoining mainland and islands.
Kwakwaka'wakw translates as "those who speak Kwak’wala. Today they are organized into 13 band governments. Their language is now spoken by less than 5% of the population (about 250 people).
Recently they have been active in trying to reclaim and revitalize their culture and population.
